Rockies Trail
10 days / 9 nights

Rockies Trail offers the best of Western Canada, travelling by tour coach through the national parks of the Canadian Rockies. Highlights are many, including the famous tourist regions of Banff, Jasper and Whistler. Conclude the tour with a memorable stay in the scenic coastal cities of Victoria and Vancouver.

Itinerary

Day 1: Thursday: Arrival in Calgary
Arrive independently at your centrally located hotel. After a check in with your tour director, the remainder of the day is free. Overnight in Calgary.

Day 2: Friday: Calgary to Banff National Park
Start the day with a Calgary city tour, then travel west on the Trans-Canada Highway into the rolling foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Majestic peaks soon fill the horizon as we enter Banff National Park, our first of several in the Canadian national parks system. Stay 2 nights in Banff.

Day 3: Saturday: Banff National Park
Enjoy touring the region around Banff. The town became Canada’s first national park in 1885 to protect a natural hot spring. Visit the original hot springs, the landmark Banff Springs Hotel, Tunnel Mountain and Bow Falls. The afternoon is at leisure to stroll on Banff Avenue or relax and enjoy the scenery.

Day 4: Sunday: Banff National Park to Jasper National Park
Today’s journey in Jasper and Banff National Parks promises to be a highlight of our programme. Travel north on the famed Icefields Parkway, regarded as perhaps Canada’s most scenic drive. Shortly after leaving Banff, we first stop to visit Lake Louise, one of the most photographed scenes in Canada. At the Columbia Icefield board a specially constructed ’SnoCoach‘ to ride on the surface of the Athabasca Glacier. Overnight in Jasper.

Day 5: Monday: Jasper National Park to Sun Peaks Resort
Travel west along the Yellowhead Highway and into the heartland of British Columbia. The route takes us along the Thompson River, through the picturesque Shuswap Highlands to the Sun Peaks Resort, one
of Canada’s foremost ski areas. Breathtaking and unspoiled vistas await visitors during every season
of the year. Overnight at Sun Peaks Resort.

Day 6: Tuesday: Sun Peaks Resort to Whistler
Expect a day of dramatic scenery changes. Passing the ‘cowboy country’ ranch land of Kamloops and Cache Creek, our route clings to the steep canyon walls of the Fraser River. Lillooet was the supply centre for the Cariboo Gold Rush of 1860 and follow a breathtaking route through the wilderness mapped by the gold-seekers. Our destination is Whistler Village, a famed ski centre, and now a popular year-round resort, located on the edge of Garibaldi Provincial Park. Overnight in Whistler.

Day 7: Wednesday: Whistler to Victoria
We drive south to Horseshoe Bay today, through spectacular coastal scenery, on the Sea-to-Sky Highway. We cruise by ferry across the Strait of Georgia to Vancouver Island and continue by coach to Victoria, British Columbia’s capital city. En route we visit the Native Heritage Centre in Duncan, where we experience culture and traditions of the native people. Stay next two nights in Victoria.

Day 8: Thursday: Victoria
Today, we enjoy a tour of charming Victoria and Butchart Gardens. Proud of her maritime heritage, Victoria has retained a quaint, colonial demeanour, evident in the many 19th century landmarks. At Butchart Gardens, one of the world’s great floral displays, there is ample time for browsing through the regal gardens. The remainder of the day is at leisure.

Day 9: Friday: Victoria to Vancouver
Depart Victoria this morning on a pleasant cruise through the Gulf Islands resort region to the oceanside city of Vancouver. Upon arrival in Vancouver we enjoy an interesting tour of the city, including Stanley Park, English Bay, Gastown, Chinatown and much more. The remainder of the day is free to explore or simply relax. This evening features our farewell dinner party at the Capilano Suspension Bridge. Overnight in Vancouver.

Day 10: Saturday: End of tour
A time for last-minute shopping and sad farewells.
